Tuka

Tuka

Bubo magellanicus

She arrived as a squab to the Metropolitan Zoo, where she was raised until becoming an adult. She was then transferred to the Refuge so that our team worked with her behavioral rehabilitation but her prolonged captive breeding generated a strong habituation with humans. This tucúquere loves the caregivers of the Refuge, to whom she speaks daily, but shows very aggressive behavior towards other people and children, so that’s why it’s been decided that she lives in captivity in order to avoid any possible problem by living in freedom (she could attack people).

She is a very talkative and playful tucúquere… she found a place that she loves inside the Refuge, where she flies freely, talks to any neighbour animal and plays with all the implements we give her.
