Geranoaetus polyosoma

This beautiful Variable hawk came to live at the Refugio because she has loss of vision in her left eye, probably the result of an impact with a building in the city of Santiago. Her loss of vision prevents her from hunting, so she could not survive in the wild on her own.

Human impacts are often silent… a large reflective window or building can interrupt an animal’s life forever.

Llaima came to live at the Refuge, where she shares her life with Elvis, with whom she entertains a lot in various areas of the Refuge.
